Cleaning Your New Carpet

You’ve just had your new carpet installed, the smell the look everything is fresh and clean. How do you keep it looking like new? Whether you moved into a new house or renovated your existing home nothing is more noticeable than a room with wall to wall carpeting. But for most that look soon disappears and is replaced by a feeling of dread as you look at the area as a dirt trail that leads to lots of work.

To keep your carpet looking clean you have to keep it clean. Sounds simple and it is if you stick to regular schedule, but for most time is an issue and your weekly plan turns into 2, 3 or 4 weeks between vacuuming. Try to follow this simple schedule; low traffic areas at least once a week, medium traffic areas twice a week and heavy traffic areas every second day. Use slow deliberate passes, going over each area forwards and backwards twice.

Should an accident happen and something gets spilled on your carpet; treat the effected area as soon as possible. The sooner you attend to a stain the less time it has to absorb into the carpet fibers. Using a hot water extractor every three months on heavy traffic areas, every six months on medium traffic areas and once a year on light traffic areas will go along way in keeping your carpets looking clean and fresh.
