Carpet Stains Caused by Vomit or Urine

When treating any type of stain always do a test area in an inconspicuous area. Urine and vomit can be removed following a few simple steps, but unlike other stains there may be an odor associated with these types of stains. We will want to ensure this problem is addressed by adding the appropriate cleaner, at the right stage of cleaning.

Both stains will be treated the same way except for the vomit stain you will want to clean up any excess vomit before you start treating it. This can be done by using a spoon, spatula or some sort of similar blunt object, you do not want to use a knife as this may cut and damage the carpet fibers. Apply a high quality stain remover to the area and gently spot tap the area with a cleaning brush to get deep into the fibers. Next blot the area using a clean white cloth, rotating always using the clean part of the cloth. Follow this up by rinsing with cold clean water and then blot up the excess water with a clean white cloth. Then spot dry using a blow dryer with a circular motion, make sure the air setting is cool, as heat could possible damage the carpet fibers.

Once the area is completely dry you want to treat it with an odor eliminating product. Apply the odor eliminating product to the affected area and let stand for 5-10 minutes. Blot with a clean white cloth until you have removed most of the product then rinse with cold clean water. Finish up by blotting the area one last time with a clean white cloth, and then use the blow dryer as described above.
